Travel virtually with Beth Sair, retired educator and passionate historian, throughout Chicagoland to hear “Talking Statues” tell their own compelling stories as written by Chicagoans, voiced by Chicago actors and co-produced by Chicago theaters.
We’ll introduce you to Leif Ericson, who claims he actually discovered America 500 years before Columbus. George Washington thanks Haym Salomon, an important financier of the American Revolution. Aaron Montgomery Ward, voiced by Bill Kurtis, recounts the story of his famous mail-order catalog, but more importantly, his love for the environment. Amy Morton brings to life the sculpture “Helping Hands,” which commemorates Jane Addams. “Cloud Gate” (more commonly known as “The Bean”) comes to life thanks to David Schwimmer’s monologue. And Bob Newhart speaks for himself as his statue is seated next to a couch, inviting his audience to relax for a bit.
While enjoying this fascinating 55 minute PowerPoint presentation, you will learn unique details about Chicago’s history and that of its statues and sculptures.
